QBI deduction filing separately, 2024
This works out one number from the QBI Deduction Threshold figures published for 2024. Every amount it uses is below, with the document it was read from. What you enter is your own: this site has no way to check it, and the answer it produces is not a published figure.
Not the one you need? The same year also has QBI deduction on any other return, QBI deduction on a joint return, taxable income left for a service business.

How it is worked out
The published share of the qualified business income you enter, in full while your taxable income is at or below the published threshold. Above it, that amount is brought down towards the published wage and property ceiling - the greater of the published share of your W-2 wages, or the published share of those wages plus the published share of your unadjusted basis in qualified property - by the same share of the way your income has come through the published phase-in range, so the ceiling applies in full at the top of it and not at all below it. Where the ceiling is already the larger of the two, nothing is taken off. For a specified service trade or business the whole of it is scaled by what is left of that range, reaching nothing at the top. The answer is then never more than the published share of your taxable income less the net capital gain you enter, and it is rounded to the nearest cent. This computes one trade or business, or one aggregation: it carries no REIT or publicly traded partnership component, no patron reduction and no loss carried forward from an earlier year.
It uses QBI component rate, 20% and W-2 wage limit rate, 50% and Alternative W-2 wage rate, 25% and Qualified property rate, 2.5% and Taxable income limit rate, 20% and Threshold, married filing separately, $191,950 and Phase-in range top, married filing separately, $241,950, published above.
Figures in this colour are computed from the amounts above. They are not published figures and no document states them.
