Indiana allows employers to pay a subminimum training wage of $4.25 per hour to employees who are under 20 years of age. This lower rate applies only during the first 90 consecutive calendar days after the employee is initially hired by that employer. After either the employee turns 20 or the 90-day period ends — whichever comes first — the employer must pay at least the full state minimum wage of $7.25 per hour. Indiana's Minimum Wage Law does not list a separate student or learner subminimum rate in this poster; the training wage for young workers is the principal below-minimum rate the state provides. Employers who want to pay less than $7.25 per hour must keep the worker within the age and time limits, or risk civil and criminal penalties under Indiana law.

When tips, meals or lodging count toward the minimum wage
Indiana permits employers to pay tipped employees a lower cash wage of at least $2.13 per hour if the employer claims a tip credit. The tips the worker actually receives are then counted toward the minimum wage. If an employee's tips combined with the $2.13 hourly wage do not add up to at least $7.25 per hour for every hour worked, the Indiana employer must make up the difference out of its own funds. In other words, the tip credit does not let the employer pay less than the full state minimum wage once tips and cash wage are combined — the worker must still receive $7.25 per hour in total. This rule applies to workers in Indiana whose jobs customarily and regularly produce tips, and it sits alongside the state's overtime and record-keeping requirements.
Generally, employers must pay tipped employees at least $2.13 per hour if the employer claims a tip credit. If the employee’s tips combined with the hourly wage do not equal the minimum wage, the employer must make up the difference.
