Terms of use

These terms cover the pages of Rates and Limits, the JSON api, the stored source snapshots and the embeddable cards. Using any of them means accepting what follows.

The figures are published as they are

Every figure on this site links to its government source and carries the date it was verified. No professional review is claimed and nothing here is advice. Nothing on this site is tax, legal, accounting, financial, employment or benefits advice, no figure is reviewed or endorsed by a professional in any of those fields, and reading a page or writing to us creates no relationship in which advice could be given.

What is claimed instead is a method, written out under methodology: each number was read out of a government document that is linked beside it and stored here whole, and every numeric claim was checked by code against that stored text before the page was written. Those checks compare a number against a sentence. They do not read the sentence, and they cannot see a change in the law that no document on file mentions yet.

So the figures are offered as they are, with no warranty of any kind, and are used at your own risk. If a number disagrees with the document linked beside it, the document is right and the page is wrong. Check the document before you act on the number, and tell us: how to report one is under corrections.

Using the figures

A published amount is a fact stated by a government agency and belongs to nobody. Take the numbers and use them, including commercially. What this site asks in return is attribution and a link back, and one thing more: do not strip the evidence fields and then present the figures as sourced from here. The evidence is the claim. A number republished without the quote, the snapshot and the verification date is a number nobody can check, which is the state of affairs this site exists to end.

The api and the embeds

The api takes no key and enforces no rate limit, which is a design choice about static files rather than an invitation to hammer it: fetchinglatest.json once is one request where walking the catalogue is hundreds, and it is the polite way to index what this site knows. An embedded card carries a source line and a link back to the page its figures are published on. That link is the entire payment for the feature, and removing it, hiding it with CSS, or reframing a card so that it reads as your own is the one use of the embeds that is not permitted. What is promised, and what is not

Three things are promised, and the build refuses to ship if any of them breaks. A published page address is permanent: past year pages are never deleted and never redirected. A published api address is permanent for the same reason, and more strictly, because a caller who loses one gets a silent failure rather than a 404 they can see. A published snapshot never changes and never disappears, so a quote, an offset and a digest recorded against it stay checkable.

Nothing else is promised. There is no uptime commitment, no support obligation, no guaranteed reply, and no assurance that a figure you need exists here or will be added. A page may be reworded at any time; the figure on it may not, except as a correction made in the open.
