Which entities pay this rate, including an LLC that elects it
An LLC with more than one owner is generally treated as a partnership and files Form 1065. A single-member LLC is typically disregarded and reports on its owner's return. However, an LLC can elect to be treated as an association taxable as a corporation by filing Form 8832. Once that election is made, the LLC files Form 1120 and is subject to the corporate tax rate of 21% on its taxable income. The election is not automatic - the LLC must affirmatively file the entity classification election form and attach a copy to its corporate return for the year the election takes effect. For more details, see Pub. 3402.
The LLC can file a Form 1120 only if it has filed Form 8832 to elect to be treated as an association taxable as a corporation.

The filing deadline, and the extension
A corporation must generally file its income tax return by the 15th day of the 4th month after the end of its tax year. If the due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, the corporation can file on the next business day. A corporation can request an automatic extension of time to file by submitting Form 7004 by the regular due date of the return. However, any tax owed must still be paid by the original deadline - even with an extension, interest and penalties on unpaid amounts continue to accrue.
When To File Generally, a corporation must file its income tax return by the 15th day of the 4th month after the end of its tax year.

Corporations pay the tax in four installments
Corporations must pay estimated tax in four installments if they expect their total tax for the year, after credits, to be $500 or more. The installments are due on the 15th day of the 4th, 6th, 9th, and 12th months of the tax year. If a due date falls on a weekend or legal holiday, the payment is due the next business day. Corporations must use electronic funds transfer for these payments and should use Form 1120-W as a worksheet to figure the amount owed.
Estimated Tax Payments Generally, the following rules apply to the corporation's payments of estimated tax. • The corporation must make installment payments of estimated tax if it expects its total tax for the year (less applicable credits) to be $500 or more.

Personal service corporations pay at the same rate
A personal service corporation is a corporation whose principal activity during the testing period is the performance of personal services. The testing period for a tax year is generally the prior tax year unless the corporation has just been formed. Personal services include activities in the fields of accounting, actuarial science, architecture, consulting, engineering, health, law, and the performing arts, and these services must be substantially performed by employee-owners. A personal service corporation is subject to the same corporate tax rate of 21% that applies to all other C corporations filing Form 1120. The corporation must indicate its status as a personal service corporation by checking the appropriate box on its return.
